According
to reports out of England, U.S. National team star Clint Dempsey could be making his home on Merseyside during the 2012-13 season and beyond.
Dempsey has long maintained he wishes to play for a Champions
League club, and has reportedly made it clear he will not sign a new contract
with current side Fulham. With his deal set to expire after the upcoming season, several big
sides across Europe have been on high alert.
Sources are saying that new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants to snap Dempsey up this week, and hopes to lure him to
Anfield with a 7.5 million pound bid, despite the fact the Reds will only be playing
in the Europa League next season.
Liverpool’s
Rodgers reportedly wants to have Dempsey on board when Liverpool begins its
three-match North American tour, which kicks off on July 21 in Toronto versus
Toronto FC. The Reds will also face Roma at Fenway Park in Boston, and
Tottenham in Baltimore. According to the Daily
Mail, Rodgers said an 'exciting' deal could be completed in the
next few days, though he did not mention one player specifically.
