Krzyzewski has been involved with USA Basketball as a coach on and off since 1979, when he started out as an assistant to Bob Knight with the USA Pan American Games team that won gold. Since that time he has helped lead the U.S. to eight gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals. He was an assistant on the storied 1992 Olympic "Dream Team," which featured Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson,Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone and won gold in Barcelona. As head coach of the USA National Team since 2006, Krzyzewski has guided the team to gold medals at the 2010 FIBA World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
In 36 years as a head basketball coach, Coach K has built one of the most extraordinary coaching resumes in sports history. He is the all-time winningest head coach in Men's Division I basketball history with a record of 927-291. He has led Duke to four NCAA Championships (1991, 1992, 2001 and 2010),13 ACC Tournament championships and 11 Final Four appearances, and his teams consistently boast one of the best graduation rates in college basketball. Coach K has received 12 National Coach of the Year honors and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
Basketball and Beyond with Coach K airs weekly during college basketball season (Wednesdays at 7:00 pm ET) on Mad Dog Radio.
