Tom Maynard, a 23-year-old batsman for Surrey County Cricket Club, has been killed after he was hit by a tube train. He was hit by a District Line train on the London Underground at Wimbledon Park station at 5.03am this morning, Press Association sources said, after earlier reports stated he had been killed in a car crash. His death is currently being treated as non-suspicious. The 23-year-old batted at number four for his county against Kent in their Twenty defeat at Beckenham only on Sunday. His father, Matthew Maynard, played for England in four Test matches. He was expected to go on and represent England having played for the Lions squad last winter. British Transport Police added "a file will be prepared for the Coroner", while Surrey have postponed Wednesday's T20 game against Hampshire at the Oval and the ECB have cancelled an England press conference at the ground today as a mark of respect. Cricketer Tom Maynard'a car was pulled over before he was hit by a train, according to the Metropolitan Police. A spokesperson for the Met confirmed that a vehicle was "stopped a 4.15am on Monday after it had been seen driven erratically in Arthur Road, SW19". The male driver of the black Mercedes C250 then decamped on foot. "Officers were unable to locate the man," said the spokesperson. The body of a man fitting the same description was found on tracks near Wimbledon Park station."
